Which Budget Apps Work Without Linking Your Bank? 6 You Can Get in Europe

You can budget without giving any app your bank login. Here are the apps that let you, and four popular ones you can't even get in Europe.

Short answer

Yes, many budget apps work without your bank login. In Europe you can get six of them: DolFin, Koody, Goodbudget, Spendee, Skwad and YNAB. You can use all six without a bank link. DolFin and Koody read a statement you upload. With the others, you type your spending in or import a file.

A note first: DolFin is our app. We put it on this list, and we say when another app fits you better. What we say about the other apps comes from their own websites and App Store pages. We checked it all on 1 October 2026.

Which popular apps can't you get in Europe?

Many lists of budget apps come from the US. They often name four apps: EveryDollar, WalletHub, Honeydue and PocketGuard. On 1 October 2026, none of them was in the App Store in Germany, Austria, France or Ireland. If you live in Europe, you can't download them there. All six apps in the table above were there.

Why skip the bank link?

A bank link lets an app see every payment on your account. It sees them all the time. That is handy. Some people don't want a company to see that much. Some have a bank the app can't link to. Without a link, you can still see where your money goes. You bring the payments in another way.

Three ways to budget without a bank link

Type it in

You add each payment by hand. You see every cent. But it's slow, and you have to keep at it. Goodbudget, Spendee, Koody and YNAB all let you work this way.

Import a file

You download a file from your bank and load it into the app. Goodbudget, Spendee, Koody and Skwad can read files like a CSV. YNAB can too, but only on the web or an iPad.

Upload your statement

You download your monthly statement and give it to the app. The app reads it for you. DolFin and Koody work this way. DolFin then shows you the payments that come back each month, like subscriptions, bills and fees.

The 6 apps, one by one

DolFin: upload one file, type nothing

DolFin is a budget app for iPhone. You upload your bank statement as a PDF or CSV. First you guess what leaves your account each month. Then DolFin shows you the real number and the payments that repeat. For free, you get your guess next to the real number. You also get your top three payments to check, a guide for the first one and five lessons. The rest is in Pro, an in-app purchase. The app is in English and German.

Pick another app if you use Android, or you want to see your account live every day. DolFin only reads the statement you upload. It can't cancel anything for you.

Koody: it reads statements too

Koody's own site says you don't need to link a bank. You type your spending in or upload a statement as a CSV or PDF. It also looks for payments that repeat. There's a free version.

Pick another app if you don't want to type. Koody is built around typing first.

Goodbudget: money in pots

Goodbudget splits your money into pots, one for each thing you spend on, like food or rent. You type in payments or import a file. Linking a bank is a paid extra, and it only works with US banks. There's a free version.

Pick another app if you don't want to type your spending in.

Spendee: wallets and budgets

Spendee lets you type in your spending or import a file like a CSV. The free plan has one wallet and one budget. Linking a bank costs extra.

Pick another app if you don't want to type or import anything.

Skwad: reads your bank's emails

Skwad reads the emails your bank sends you when you pay. So it needs no bank login. You can also import files, even PDF statements. Its higher plan can link a bank, but only in the US and Canada. It finds payments that repeat. There's no free version.

Pick another app if you want a free app, or your bank doesn't send email alerts.

YNAB: a budget for every dollar

YNAB stands for "You Need A Budget". You can type in your spending or link a bank. On iPhone you can't import files. That only works on the web or an iPad. You can test it for a few weeks. After that, you pay.

Pick another app if you want to bring in files on your iPhone, or you don't want to pay.

Do I need a bank link to budget?

No. A bank link saves you typing, but you don't need one. You can type your spending in, import a file, or upload your statement. Your bank's online banking almost always has your statement as a PDF, and often as a CSV.

Try DolFin with your own statement

Upload one bank statement as a PDF or CSV. No bank login. DolFin shows you the payments that come back each month.
